MIFA#1 Bargaining Update

It was decided by mutual agreement that negotiations between Frontier and MIFA I will move into the “Escalation Process” as provided for in the MIFA MOA. Negotiations will take place in Baltimore, MD, the week of November 2, 2014.

The “Escalation Process” will include the Chairman of SCT – 7, Michael Brousseau, and the IBEW Director of Telecom, Martha Pultar at the bargaining table. The Business Managers and Representatives will be available as well for their input. Frontier will have the Director of Labor and Vice Presidents of Labor present. If an agreement cannot be reached after 14 days either party can demand Interest Arbitration with any proposals that are not tentatively agreed to.

All of the proposals the Company has left on the table the Union believes are concessionary in nature and not in the best interest of the membership. These proposals deal with insurance premiums for active employees, retiree medical, overtime pay / administration, on call premiums, scheduling provisions, vacation provisions, short term disability, use of contractors, and excused union time off. All totaled the Company has approximately 15 proposals still on the table. Unfortunately Frontier believes that the Union negotiating committee is the only ones upset with their proposals.

Plans are being developed where we will be asking for volunteers to carry informational picket signs in specific locations. We will be sending sign-up sheets to your respective locations where members can volunteer to help carry the message to the Company that they too are not happy with what is left on the table! If you want a fair and equitable contract, it is imperative that the membership show support and solidarity for the IBEW Negotiating team throughout MIFA I bargaining units. Please show your support and solidarity by wearing “red” on Thursdays, “black” on Fridays and your Union buttons every day and to all Company meetings.

To find out more information please attend your monthly Union meeting.

Fraternally,

IBEW Negotiating Team

MIFA#1 Bargaining Update

Negotiations between Frontier and MIFA I continued in Romulus, MI. from September 15, 2014, through September, 26, 2014, without the parties reaching a tentative agreement.

The MIFA MOA requires 30 days of bargaining with a mediator present from the FMCS. The Mediator was present thru the last two sessions of negotiations during the months of August and September.

The parties agreed that negotiations will be suspended for the month of October due to previous commitments by both parties.

The Company and the Union have not determined whether to continue with the mediator or move into the escalation process. The Union Business Managers have scheduled a conference call for October 8, 2014, to decide how best to proceed.

The escalation process will include the Chairman of SCT-7, Michael Brousseau, IBEW Director of Telecommunication, Martha Pultar, and an Assistant from the IBEW Telecommunication Department at the bargaining table. Frontier will have the Director of Labor and Vice Presidents of Labor present. If an agreement cannot be reached after 14 days either party can demand Interest Arbitration with any proposals that are not tentatively agreed to.
